Heat Moisture Modified Rice Flours as Additive in Drilling Fluids

Drilling mud is a dense, viscous fluid mixture used in oil and gas drilling operations to bring rock cuttings the earth's surface from boreholes as well lubricate cool drill bit. Water-based commonly due its relatively inexpensive easy dispose of. However, several components additives muds become increasingly cautious restricted. Starch was introduced safe biodegradable additive into water-based fluid, line with an environmental health concern. In this study, suitability of four local rice flours their heat moistures derivatives be incorporated formulation investigated. They were selected natural amylose contents (waxy, low, intermediate, high). also moisture treated increase contents. Results showed that addition significantly reduced density, viscosity, filtrate volume. gel strength increased. The flours, either native or treated, could serve provide variety low cost environmentally friendly fluids fitted different activity.
